If you are looking for a kennel for your beloved pet Pitbull then you will not find a shortage of them online. There are many different Pitbull Kennels that are solely for pit bulls. These kennels can cater for different breeds of Pitbulls including American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers. You dog will be well looked after and much loved if you find a suitable kennel. Many of these kennels will also have studs where you can purchase Pitbulls if you desire. Some of the kennels even help to rehabilitate abused or homeless Pitbulls and then find owners for them.

There is much debate about Pitbulls at the moment due to a recent spate of maulings by this breed of dog. It is not hard to take a look at both sides of the story. First you have the owners of the Pitbull that performed the attacking. A lot of the time the dog that attacked has been brought up in a very hostile environment with not much love or care. This leads to a dog that cannot connect very well with people. A lot of Pitbull owners will swear that their dogs would never attack anyone and in a lot of cases this is true. Pitbulls have been known to have a great connection with children and have even been known to protect them against harm. On the other side of the debate is the families of the people or children who have been attacked. There have been calls for the banning of this breed of dog.

If you buy a dog from a Pitbull kennel then you will probably find that it will have a wonderful temperament. This is because the dog has been loved for and brought up in a very caring environment. Any dog that is raised this way will be a fun loving, non aggressive animal. The problem with aggressive Pitbulls is that they have not had this upbringing. This allows their aggressive side to surface and take control. Pitbulls are descendants of the English bulldog that was bred specifically for fighting. Some Pit Bulls are known to be more aggressive than others and this could be a throw back to their breeding history.

Pitbulls are also known to be some of the most athletic dogs in the world today. This is also from their breeding as their ancestors were once bear and bull fighting dogs that were used by cowboys in the old days. Some illegal Pitbull kennels that are around today are still breeding Pitbulls specifically for fighting. This is giving a bad name to all the legitimate pit bull kennels around the country and is not helping the breed to continue on in a positive manner. Some cities and states are banning Pitbulls at this stage although a lot of Pitbull owners are hoping that their beautiful pets can continue to live in peace.

If you are looking for a Pitbull kennel to either buy a Pitbull from or one to leave your dog at, then here are a few small facts that you might like to read about.

Pitbull kennels have both male and female dogs that are usually of all different ages. These dogs are bred to supply the demand for the breed that is currently out there today. Some kennels target particular traits such as colour or size and these specialised dogs usually command a higher price tag on the market.

A good Pitbull kennel will go to great lengths to ensure that the environment is hygienic for the dogs. The dogs should be treated for heartworm and invasion of fleas and ticks. Most kennels will have a local vet that will regularly check on the health of all the animals to ensure that there are no problems. One of the diseases that Pitbulls are susceptible to is Lyme disease but this is no major issue and can treated at the kennel. Good dog kennels will provide good quantities of healthy, nutritious, high quality dog food.

Most Pitbull kennels will have already begun a young puppies training. This greatly helps a new owner as the first few steps are always the hardest for a young do to learn. This is another great reason to buy a Pitbull for a certified Pitbull kennel.

Maintaining your dog kennel is a task that can be performed easily if the correct kennel has been purchased and maintenance is completed regularly. To preserve a healthy living environment for your dog it is usually as easy as cleaning out the dog faeces, a pooper scooper is perfect for this task, once a week and disinfecting any areas that need it with some bleach and water. This will help to kill the bacteria that make your dog sick. Make sure that any areas that have come into contact with bleach are rinsed well with fresh water before the dog is allowed back in the kennel. This will prevent any chemical burns to the pads of the dog’s paws.

A kennel that has a grated or slatted floor should have small posts or rails to keep the bottom up off the ground. If not, it should be raised during installation. If you do raise your kennel, make sure it is still sturdy and level as we all know dogs are prone to boisterous behaviour inside their kennels. This allows the dog faeces to be washed out from under the kennel and increases overall hygiene of the area. If the kennel floor is solid, some are plastic, rubber or wooden, make sure bleach is used weekly as described above. Don’t forget to rinse the area well!

Some dogs were born to climb and are determined to escape any enclosure they are in. If this is the case, do not stake the dog to a chain inside the kennel. Many foolish people have staked chains inside their dog kennels. dog kennels only to have found that their dog has hung itself from the collar while trying to climb the kennel sides. If all else fails, invest in a kennel top which covers the kennel roof and stops climbing behaviour. There are companies that have introduced these systems and they will extend the life of your kennel and make the environment much more comfortable for your dog to live in.

Spray a small amount of silicone lubricant on any hinges and latches on the kennel. This will greatly improve the lifespan of your kennel and help everything to run smoothly. A good once over should be given to the kennel at least once a month to check for any loose or broken wires. These should be repaired immediately as they can lead to expensive veterinary bills if your dog gets cut by a rusty or broken wire. Overall, kennel maintenance is easy and doesn’t take much time, make sure you use common sense and most importantly, take care of any problems sooner rather than later.

This article is designed with the intention of giving you an idea of what to consider as you purchase a new home for your dog. Be it a puppy that is ready to move into a new big world or an old friend that needs somewhere comfortable to spend their remaining days. One of the biggest concerns that most dog owners have when setting out to buy a new dog kennel is the size. Will it be big enough? Or too big? Dog owners don’t want their dog to be cramped but, as you may know, too much room in a kennel can be a bad thing too.

The first thing that must be decided upon when determining the proper size dog kennel is what the kennel will be used for. Will it be stationary in the backyard? Or will this kennel be used mainly for travelling. If it is for travel, it must be made sure there is enough room inside for the dog to stand up, spin around, and lay back down. This will ensure your dog will be happy whilst inside the kennel.

Before more on kennel size is discussed, the distinction between dog kennels, dog crates, and dog houses must be made. Dog kennels are usually referred to as a larger area, approximately 1.5 meters x 3.5meters, that is fenced off to contain the dog. These kennels are also known as dog runs, although in some people’s eyes a dog run is a larger area than a dog kennel. Smaller kennels can also be portable and used for transportation of a dog and are best explained as a small box that contains the dog. A dog crate is usually the same thing as a portable dog kennel and the two can be used interchangeably. The term dog house refers to a dog crate that has been personalised to look more like a dog home than a dog kennel. Some examples are dog igloos or dog cabins.

Some other things to consider when selecting a dog kennel are the size of the dog, the level of activity of the dog, and the dogs waste habits. Larger more active dogs will require larger kennels than smaller dogs i.e. 2m x 3m or 3m x 3m. This of course depends on how much space the owner has available. Consideration of the dog’s waste habits is a very important factor. A dog will usually use the outside area of the kennel to do business so the owner must ensure the kennel is large enough so the dog will not sleep, eat and play in its own waste. This also helps to improve the health and well being of the dog. If all these factors are taken into account your dog kennel and run should be well suited to your loved one.

As most people know, dogs are one of the happiest creatures around. They spend their time playing freely in the backyard, chasing their tales and best of all, cheering up those around them. This leads to a common question, “Are dogs happy in their dog kennels?” If a few easy steps are taken, you can ensure that your dog will excitedly run to the kennel every time and enjoy just being there.

A few easy things to do that will ensure your dog loves his/her kennel are as follows:

Dog kennels can be a scary place for a dog so something as simple as placing a pillow in the kennel can help with a more comfortable experience. Most dogs like a snug fit in their kennels, in addition to this, a pillow will offer something familiar for the dog to come back to every time he/she returns to the kennel. A pillow for a dog is much the same as a pillow in your house. It might not be the best quality or the softest pillow available, but it’s yours and to you it’s the best pillow there is.

Place your dog’s favourite toy inside the kennel. Dog kennels are a strange place and this will help your dog become accustomed to the new kennel, similar to placing a pillow in the kennel as talked about above. Having a dog’s favourite toy will give extra incentive in the beginning, helping your dog to get used to the kennel much faster.

Some training is needed for your dog to get used to his/her new kennel. If this is done properly, your dog will excitedly go into the kennel when it is time. Make sure you are firm, consistent and have a set schedule. Having a set schedule is probably the most important part of training. Your dog will learn when it is time for play and when it is kennel time. After proper training, your dog will excitedly enter the kennel every time.

One of the major issues in unhealthy and disobedient dogs is lack of regular exercise. With plenty of exercise your dog will most likely look forward to resting in his/her dog kennel. Regualr exercise can also help to reduce any dog allergies that your dog might have. Without exercise, your dog will become bored and probably start misbehaving. Another negative throwback of this is that the dog might start associating his/her kennel with bad experiences, causing the dog to resist entering at all costs.

The last point is to make sure that the kennel is large enough for the dog. There should be enough room for him/her to move around and play with toys. Dogs do like a snug fit, but they dislike being cramped for space.

There are several different types of dog kennels available today. These include portable kennels, multiple kennel runs, outdoor kennels and indoor kennels. The chosen will have to suit both the needs of the dog owner and the dog.

Portable dog kennels: Kennels of this kind are designed for people with trailers or Utes and others who travel to dog shows use this type of kennel for short-term use during transportation. These kennels are referred to as a dog cage or dog pen and are usually consist of panels 1-1.5 meters in length and can be setup or taken down quickly. People with trailers or Utes and others who travel to dog shows use this type of kennel for short-term use.

Multiple Kennel Runs: This type of kennel setup can house many dogs and keep them separated if needed. ‘Fence fighting’ can often be an issue among closely housed dogs and can be overcome with the use of an isolation panel that prevents the dogs from being able to see each other. A multiple kennel run can have as many runs as needed which are usually 1.5m wide x 3.5m long.

Outdoor dog kennels: These kennels are used to both keep your dog in and also keep predators out. There are 3 major types of kennels available for outdoor use: Steel rod kennels, welded wire and chain link. Chain link kennels normally come in two types: frame and stretch types, and pre-fabricated panels. Pre-fabricated types come with the chain link already installed so that the only work needed is bolting the panels together and the kennel is ready to be used. Frame and stretch type dog kennels are more difficult and labour intensive to assemble as the frame has to be assembled and the chain link stretched over the frame and attached.

Indoor Kennels: Indoor dog kennels are very similar to outdoor kennels but are usually not as big allowing easy maneuverability indoors. The corrosion resistant coating on indoor kennels is not critical as weather has no effect on the surface of the kennel. Secure latches are a must on indoor dog kennels as the purpose is to keep the dog inside a certain area. A kennel without a latch or with one poorly designed defeats the purpose of having one at all.

The unprotected surface on any outdoor dog kennel is always important. While a powdercoat finish is great if applied properly, be sure to check the quality of the finish as a poorly applied powdercoat will rust faster than paint. A spray on galvanizing has also been used recently which shows rust in only a few weeks so be sure to ask what kind of finish is applied be it spray-on or hot dipped. In most cases, best judgment will suffice in choosing a quality dog kennel that suits the owner and the dogs needs and always remember the old saying ‘You get what you pay for’ is usually true. There are many great sites out there full of great information on everything including Modular Dog Kennels and Pet Fence Systems. So get out there and have a look, you might be surprised at what you can find!

At the moment there is quite a bit of debate in the dog kennel industry over which type is better, welded-wire or chain link. Both types of dog kennels have their pros and cons, so here they are:

Welded Wire Dog Kennels

These come prefabricated with the frame already built and the wire attached to the panels. All that is needed is for the panels to be bolted together to a size required. Dog kennels of this kind are rated by the gauge of the wire used. The lower the gauge number, the heavier, therefore the stronger the wire is. For example, 12 gauge wire is much thinner than 7 gauge and so much weaker. A larger heavier dog may actually be able to break through 12 gauge or above wire mesh whereas a smaller dog cannot.

Pros: Welded wire is high strength as it is welded at each joint making it difficult, but not impossible, for the welds to be broken and the wire forced apart. Caution must be taken to enclose the welded wire in the frame of the kennel, so the dog cannot be harmed by sharp the wire ends. The prefabrication of the wire kennels makes assembly very easy.

Cons: Welded wire kennels usually come at a higher cost than chain link kennels. Make sure the gauge of the wire is sufficient, but not overkill for the dog being housed. Remember, the lower the gauge number, the thicker and stronger the wire. Be aware that many of the welded wire kennels are being shipped in from China and some of these are of inferior quality. Be sure to ask the sales staff any questions you have, and if they can’t provide the answers, find another supplier who can. There are plenty out there so shop around until a trustworthy and reliable supplier is found.
Chain Link Dog Kennels

Pros: This kind of dog kennel is usually the least expensive to purchase.

Cons: The wire used in this type of kennel is usually quite soft, to allow for the bending of the links that form the mesh. The softness of this wire can become a major drawback as large, aggressive breeds of dog may be able to bite and push through the links leaving sharp ends exposed. These ends can cause severe damage to a dog in the form of punctures or cuts. Many of these kinds of dog kennels require the chain link to be stretched onto a frame which can take more than one person to complete properly. More than once a chain link dog kennel has been purchased only to be returned because assembly was too difficult.
