Dog Kennels Online Guide » Dog Well Being
Dog Well Being
As most people know, dogs are one of the happiest creatures around. They spend their time playing freely in the backyard, chasing their tales and best of all, cheering up those around them. This leads to a common question, “Are dogs happy in their dog kennels?” If a few easy steps are taken, you can ensure that your dog will excitedly run to the kennel every time and enjoy just being there.
A few easy things to do that will ensure your dog loves his/her kennel are as follows:
Dog kennels can be a scary place for a dog so something as simple as placing a pillow in the kennel can help with a more comfortable experience. Most dogs like a snug fit in their kennels, in addition to this, a pillow will offer something familiar for the dog to come back to every time he/she returns to the kennel. A pillow for a dog is much the same as a pillow in your house. It might not be the best quality or the softest pillow available, but it’s yours and to you it’s the best pillow there is.
Place your dog’s favourite toy inside the kennel. Dog kennels are a strange place and this will help your dog become accustomed to the new kennel, similar to placing a pillow in the kennel as talked about above. Having a dog’s favourite toy will give extra incentive in the beginning, helping your dog to get used to the kennel much faster.
Some training is needed for your dog to get used to his/her new kennel. If this is done properly, your dog will excitedly go into the kennel when it is time. Make sure you are firm, consistent and have a set schedule. Having a set schedule is probably the most important part of training. Your dog will learn when it is time for play and when it is kennel time. After proper training, your dog will excitedly enter the kennel every time.
One of the major issues in unhealthy and disobedient dogs is lack of regular exercise. With plenty of exercise your dog will most likely look forward to resting in his/her dog kennel. Regualr exercise can also help to reduce any dog allergies that your dog might have. Without exercise, your dog will become bored and probably start misbehaving. Another negative throwback of this is that the dog might start associating his/her kennel with bad experiences, causing the dog to resist entering at all costs.
The last point is to make sure that the kennel is large enough for the dog. There should be enough room for him/her to move around and play with toys. Dogs do like a snug fit, but they dislike being cramped for space.
